Where an AI Assistant Belongs in Operations

Pattern

AI is most useful when it reduces reading and drafting, while the final judgement stays with a person.

The pattern

A lot of operational work follows a repeatable shape: read something unstructured, understand what kind of request it is, collect the relevant facts, and write a clear response or next action.

That does not mean the whole job should be handed to a model. It means the repetitive edges of the work can be assisted while the decision remains human.

Where AI helps

  • Summarising long or messy messages into a short working note.
  • Suggesting categories so work can be routed more cleanly.
  • Drafting a first version of routine communication that a person can edit.
  • Highlighting uncertainty instead of hiding it.

The approval line

The important boundary is simple: AI can prepare, but a person should own anything customer-facing, commercially sensitive, or irreversible. That line is not friction; it is what makes the system usable without turning it into a liability.
